Towards an Epistemology of Intelligent Problem Solving Environments: The Hypothesis Testing Approach
نویسنده
چکیده
The main purpose of intelligent problem solving environments (IPSEs) is to offer students the opportunity to acquire knowledge while working on a sequence of problems chosen from the domain. Up to now we have developed IPSEs for various curricula and applications (computer science, hydraulics, chemistry, economic simulation games and causal modeling). On the surface being very different all IPSEs follow a common design theory: the student should acquire knowledge by testing his own hypotheses. First we want to show that hypothesis testing plays a fundamental role in a cognitive science orientated theory of knowledge acquisition (ISP-DL-theory). This theory is the basis of our IPSEs. In a case study three IPSEs and their relationship to hypothesis testing are discussed. Then we define the concept of hypothesis testing in a logic framework. We describe knowledge acqusition events and learning effects. It is argued that knowledge acquisition stimulated by IPSEs is based fundamentally on selfexplaining the responses of the IPSE to the student's hypotheses.

Towards an Epistemology of Intelligent Design and Modelling Environments: The Hypothesis Testing Approach
The main purpose of Intelligent Design and Modelling Environments is to offer students the opportunity to acquire knowledge while working on a sequence of given or self-selected problems chosen from the application domain. Earlier, we developed intelligent problem solving environments (IPSEs, Möbus, 1995) for various curricula and applications. Now we extend this approach to intelligent design ...

Introduction & Objective: Paying attention to the process and approaches to the problem solving from the view of the e-learning courses designers, will improve the aspects of development. The problem-based learning provides the discovery structure and helps the students to internalize their learning. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to investigate the factors that lead to more utili...
متن کاملSolving the Dynamic Job Shop Scheduling Problem using Bottleneck and Intelligent Agents based on Genetic Algorithm
The problem of Dynamic Job Shop (DJS) scheduling is one of the most complex problems of machine scheduling. This problem is one of NP-Hard problems for solving which numerous heuristic and metaheuristic methods have so far been presented. Genetic Algorithms (GA) are one of these methods which are successfully applied to these problems. In these approaches, of course, better quality of solutions...
